? Coins (also known as Question Coins) are a variety of coins that appear in Luigi's Mansion 4: Haunted Dreams and Luigi's Mansion 5: Curse of the Mansion. ? Coins are semi-common items. Throughout Luigi's adventure, he can find them in many different areas. Should Luigi collect a ? Coin, random effects will occur. Here are possible choices:
- A trail of Shiny Notes.
- An amount of Coins, Blue Coins, or Ghost Combs.
- A Power-Up.
- Another ? Coin.
- A 1-Up Mushroom.
- A Half-Up Mushroom.
Normally, when Luigi collects a ? Coin, collectibles appear, and if Luigi collects them all within the time limit given, he will receive a prize, such as 1-Up Mushrooms or Half-Up Mushrooms, although it is also possible for there to be three or even five 1-Up Mushrooms, or 4 Half-Up Mushrooms, which form up to be two 1-Up Mushrooms. Other possible choices are Power-Ups, Coins, Ghost Combs, or rarely, a Shiny Star.
? Coins reappear in Luigi's Mansion 6: U Are Doomed!!, with the same tactics. Collecting all Yellow Coins that appear through activating a ? Coin will no longer grant the player an extra life, though Yellow Coins can still appear. ? Coins can once again make 1-Up Mushrooms and Half-Up Mushrooms appear, as well as Ghost Combs, Shiny Notes, and Power-Ups. ? Coins can now make Blue Coins appear. Additionally, once Blue Coins appear, Luigi must collect them before they disappear.
