Octopi are large brown Octogoombas that appear in Luigi's Mansion 4: Haunted Dreams and Luigi's Mansion 5: Curse of the Mansion. Unlike their blue cousins, they have blue antennae and they have white spots rather than yellow. Also, they have two body segments under their necks and they have four visible tentacles below them.
Luigi's Mansion 4: Haunted DreamsEdit
In the Luigi's Mansion series, Octopi first appeared in Luigi's Mansion 4: Haunted Dreams. They are normally found in airship levels where they hide in barrels being ready to pop out once Luigi comes near them. When Luigi comes near them, they will shoot fireballs or coconuts (or watermelons if 9,999 Ghost Combs are collected) as their main attack. To defeat them, Luigi must use the Poltergust 5000 to suck up the coconut/watermelon and then he must aim it back at them. Octopi mostly have to be defeated for a bridge to appear so that Luigi can proceed to the next area.
Luigi's Mansion 5: Curse of the MansionEdit
Octopi reappear in Luigi's Mansion 5: Curse of the Mansion with the same attacks. They only appear in two mansions: the Brrrurn Mansion and the Legendary Mansion. In the Brrrurn Mansion, Octopi are required to proceed to the next area. Unlike the prequel, however, there is a total of five Octopi rather than two. In the Legendary Mansion, Octopi are optional and are just placed there as obstacles that hinder Luigi to prevent him from reaching the Power Star, making it their only appearance where defeating them is not needed. Also, in the Legendary Mansion, if an Octopus is defeated, it will produce a coin. Octopi in this game once again shoot fireballs, coconuts, and watermelons.
